storytelling

I care about being awake to my own life. About noticing where I am, letting people and places matter to me, and choosing what feels worth giving myself to.

I’ve never been especially interested in becoming one fixed thing. I’ve been more interested in following the thread: seeing where a curiosity, a challenge, a place, or a new skill might lead me, and paying attention to what I become along the way. The outward shape of my life may have changed a couple times, but the thread underneath it all has been steady.

Photography found its place there naturally. I never grew up thinking of myself as an artist. I just wanted to learn how to photograph what I was seeing. Figuring out how to photograph the aurora, learning how to shoot hummingbirds, getting better at something I once didn’t know how to do—I loved that feeling. I loved the challenge of it, and I was proud of myself.

Photography also gave me another way to pay attention. In a world where we consume so much and move on so quickly, having my own record of the people, places, and periods of my life that I want to remember feels important.

These are some of those photographs.
